Looks like I might not go back to CTY...
It's all depending on this month. Me and my dad got into another big fight, and then it turned to him shouting at me about Chinese. I can't ever remember anything but the basics, since I always forget if I don't study something for a week. I've got major trouble remembering characters, and nothing ever works.
So, he got pretty mad at me. He decided he was going to send me to camp in China for a month instead of CTY, and then force me to spend another regular month at China right after. Fun way to spend the summer, right? Managed to give me one more chance, even though it took five more minutes of him shouting at me. I've got one month to figure out how I can learn Chinese and also learn it. So I guess I'm going to ask my friend to help me or something.
Just thought I'd tell you, in case anyone else is heading to Lancaster and wonders where I am when they get there.

well thats good! although i quit chinese school like a year ago and i honestly dont remember anything :( my parents remind me this lots too. they're all like "china's economy is moving up! soon EVERYONE will want to learn chinese and look for people who speak the language" gahh.
i dont think i'm going to cty this year. it was too fun last year i'll miss old times too much. but we are all definitely hanging out in may or something!! i love we all live semiclose to each other!
yeah my parents are the same way about hindi. It's just sooo hard to learn as it is nothing like english at all. That's why i stick to espanol.
I feel kinda bad about quitting but it was so much pressure and i had a shitty accent.

Just go to CTY and then go to China! ^^
Emily, that's what I ALWAYS do, every year. I don't want to spend my whole summer there, which my dad wants.
And Rachel, I kinda think that not going to CTY makes it worse. You won't know what CTY will be like this year until you try it, and even if it's not as fun, you can still enjoy it.
do you actually find that going to china helps you with chinese? i know a bunch of people who go back for a few weeks, and they come back and they're amazing at it so i would typically figure that you would be pretty good at it too if you go back so often. also, do your parents speak chinese with you all the time at home? because that would also help you a lot if you wanted to get better. i am the same with remembering characters and stuff, it's a major pain unless i do study them a lot, which i don't. :P it is good that you can get your friend to help you, i don't know what else to say except good luck and work hard if you really want this. =)
